Collection: Staffa 101-200
The fabled island of Staffa, and a irregular oval, located in Inner Hebrides, west of Mull, is a popular tourist attraction. The legendary Fingal's Cave is Staffa's chief claim to fame. Shaped millions of years ago by cooling process associated with volcanic action, the cave is 76 yards deep, 66 feet high, and seemingly supported by two huge and almost symmetrical black, basalt columns. The cave's cathedral-like ceiling, which still echoes the sound of the sea as it did centuries ago, was the inspiration for the world renowned composer. Mendlesohn's celebrated "Hebrides Overture". Fingal's Cave has been visited by Scott, Keats, Turner, Woodsworth and Tennyson. Jules Vern used it as setting in The Green Ray.
